I'm about to take you" behind the scenes" into the rat mind. You could say this is a Rat /People dictionary on Rat behavior.

If you pay careful attention to the things I'm about to reveal to you, you'll definitely have more success with your pet rat.

Firstly...what's a Rat Stare?

What's a Rat Stare I hear you ask?

Do your rats have a disturbing habit? Do they stare straight ahead for long periods of time?

Is it rather unnerving to see them staring, unmoving, with their eyes wide open for hours on end.

Do your ratties see dead people? Is it a sixth sense thing?

Don't fret your not the only one. For anyone thats owns(ed) a rat this is this normal rat behavior.

Pet owners often speak to their "babies" in human baby talk, but as with any animal (as smart as they are!) you're probably better off understanding your rats' behavior by their body language. With rats in particular, there are telltale signs that they will demonstrate, and that you will be able to interpret successfully.

The following are some of the typical things that owners of pet rats have witnessed their buddies doing from time to time. Some are funny, some may be a little frightening...but rest assured that most of it is just your usual rattie's behavior!

Note: these rat behaviors are generally perfectly normal of rats that are healthy and well socialized, with no current, apparent medical problems (they are active and their diets and bowel movements are normal). If your rat isn't eating right, has improper bowel movements or is demonstrating other unusual or destructive behavior - consult a small animal vet or your rats' breeder immediately.

Body Language -

Your one rat curls up its tail (while your other rat doesn't)

Possible Reasons:

Your rat is simply balancing itself. A rat's tail is for balance - even if one rat seems to use their tail more. Watch and you'll see both rats keep their tails " off the ground, particularly when they are balancing on your shoulder or climbing up to a higher space.

Body Language -

Your rat stands up and 'swings' its nose in the air Your rat sways its head from side to side.

Possible Reasons:

Your rat is catching a whiff! Rats have incredible senses of smell, and they are just identifying something in the air that is intriguing to them.

Rats don't have superior vision. Never fear, your rat can see - but sight isn't its strongest sense, making this normal behavior part of your rat's vision process.

Body Language -

Your rat is licking you all the time.

Your rat is grinding their teeth in your ear!

Your rat's eyeballs are bugging out of their head!

Possible Reasons:

Face it - you're one big rat to them!

That's actually a big compliment to you, and all of those behaviors (teeth bruxing and eye 'boggling') mean that your rat loves you and will try to groom you like a true companion (they probably also like the taste of salt of your skin!).

In short, you must be increasing your weight training regime progressively, increasing the load that you lift as you progress in your workouts. Your muscles respond to stimulation and adapt and grow to suit the increase in load. If the pressure stays the same they will not develop further...why should they? 5 Tips to Help You Wake Up Earlier

Waking a couple of hours before work or school gives you more time to prepare or compose yourself. You can either use this precious spare time to exercise or workout, which in my opinion is best done in the early morning hours. You can also start your commute earlier, ahead of everyone, to help you beat the morning traffic. Also, for some mornings is the most productive time of the day to work. There are fewer distractions and you can concentrate and focus more on the task at hand.

After hearing all these benefits, I'm sure you would want to wake up early as well. Below are five tips that may help you achieve this goal.

Get to bed earlier. This may seem out of the question, but still many of us underestimate the importance of sleeping early. Our body needs rest, and the later we sleep chances are we wake up late too. For an average adult, seven to eight hours is the best amount of sleep, although this varies from person to person. It is best to feel your body's need and adjust your sleeping hours as needed.

Get an alarm clock that suits you best. An effective alarm clock is one that will make you stand straight up as soon as you hear it. Try experimenting with different types of alarms, starting from the most annoying and work your way down. As an added tip, place your alarm clock where you can't reach it from your bed. This way you can't shut it off and go back to sleep again.

Every training session you do, every time you eat according to your healthy plan or prepare a healthy meal, every bit of general activity you do each day is putting money in your own personal 'body bank account'.

Avoid taking naps in favor of sleeping the whole night through. Stop smoking and take steps to reduce stress in your everyday life. Try assisting devices like canes, braces, or elevated toilet seats.

Sometimes, using a hot or cold pack can help ease targeted pain. Hot baths, massages and music therapy can help ease chronic pain. Alternative therapies, such as acupuncture, tai chi, meditation, drinking tea and wearing magnetic bracelets have been known to help in some cases.

At the end of the day, your doctor may decide that chronic pain medication is the best way to treat your particular symptoms. Pain medication can include something you can just grab over-the-counter from your local pharmacist, such as acetaminophen, Ibuprofen or Aspirin, or it can be a stronger prescription med like antidepressants, anticonvulsants, analgesics or cortocosteroids. Though many hate to be medicated, it's an effective way of "getting over the hump."

So you've been thinking about starting a bodybuilding program. You're less than happy with your present physique and now you really want to do something to improve it. Let's say that after having thought about it for a while you're willing to dedicate your life to developing and sculpting your muscles. One thing you don't need is anything that may hinder your success along the way. So before you enroll in a gym or start to buy equipment, you must:

Talk about it with your spouse or family:
This is very important. You must have their support. The investment you are about to make may cost your family some time and money. It's better to get their support. You may even get them to join you, and that would be much better. The last thing you want while working out is a spouse or parent who nags at you telling you what a waste of money, effort, and time your endeavor is.

Get your money ready:
Check your finances. You may have to withdraw from the bank, if you desire to purchase advanced equipment. You may go for cheaper or even free options; but if you think some equipment would be necessary to give you the best workout, then don't hesitate. It is an investment. Just make sure you are really decided on it.

Canvass for equipment:

Commercial gyms have spotters. He is either a paid assistant or a co-bodybuilder. Whether in a commercial or private gym, you must never train alone when you deal with heavy barbells. Always have a spotter handy. An alternative in a private home gym is to buy self spotting equipment so you can work out with heavy weights alone.

Visit your doctor:
Now is the proper time for a medical check up. Either your private physician or a gym doctor can do your check up. Make sure you get a clean bill of health before you start bodybuilding. Then consult with a nutritionist about what foods to eat. Good commercial gyms have nutritionists who prepare special diets for beginners and advanced builders.

Buy your gym accessories:
After you have everything mentioned above in place, then it's time to visit your sports shop and buy your accessories. You need your weightlifting leather belt, lifting gloves, shirts, and sweatpants. Don't forget your extra strength groin supporter (for males). The Three Main Body Types

If you were to go out and examine the body of every single person in this world, you will soon see a pattern that comes up over and over again, you will notice several features are very similar on people, things like overall body shape, height; they may have big thighs and abdomen areas. Similar levels of fat whether they exercise or not. If you were to take in to account all these things and were to categorize people that are similar to each other, you should end up with three groups.

These 3 groups are Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph. Every single person on this earth can go into one these categories. There is a few indifferences and anomalies among certain people, but overall they can still be identified and put in to one of the body types.

The Ectomorph is characterised by these traits:

  • The Definitive "Hard Gainer"
  • Delicate Built Body
  • Flat Chest
  • Fragile
  • Lean
  • Lightly Muscled
  • Small Shouldered
  • Takes Longer To Gain Muscle

Due to the slight uniqueness of their situation, they can usually end up looking like one of the other body types with the right exercise.

The Final body type that everyone longs for is the Mesomorph look, A lot of the Mesomorph's don't realise how lucky they are to have this body, because with a little work they can get stunning results pretty quickly, yet they are completely oblivious to this. 6 Mat Tips to Improve Your Closed Guard Attacks!

If I said that I could provide you with 6 simple tips that could make your closed guard more threatening to your opponents, would you be interested? If you're a grappling nut like I am, the answer is yes! But I have to warn you, the tips that I'm going to provide you aren't anything profound like discovering a cure for the common cold. And yet while these tips may seem basic, they could mean the difference in you controlling and submitting your opponent or just waiting for your guard to break down before you get hammered.

Here are Tips 1-3 for improving your closed guard:

Tip #1: Don't allow your opponent to get their grips - When grappler are sparring and they start out in the guard position, all too often I see the grappler on the bottom allowing the grappler inside their guard to get their grips first. Whenever you allow your opponent that's trying to pass to your guard to get their grips first, you give them an advantage over you that will enable them to pass your guard. You need to attack their grips and force them to deal with you tying them up instead of passing your guard.

Tip #2: Keep your opponents head in front of their hips - Someone may be asking right now how I'm supposed to make that happen while sparring. You do that by forcing your opponent to keep leaning forward in bad posture and not allowing them to sit back trying to get correct posture. The easiest way to do that is by pulling your opponent forward off his base by bringing your knees towards your head while keeping your heels pressed down on their lower back. You should do that along with pulling down on their head while keeping them from establishing their grips (Tip #1). If your opponent can't keep good posture, it's highly unlikely they'll be able to pass your guard.

Tip #3: Try to get into your opponent's "blind spot" by using angle attacks - Whenever you start with your opponent in your guard and you're aligned or parallel with each other (as if your opponent could lean forward and head butt you with ease), your opponent has you in their full vision. But once you start breaking down their posture while scooting out your hips off their centerline (requiring them to have to turn their head to keep you in full view), you're in their "blind spot" and that makes re-establishing their body alignment more important than trying to pass your guard because they're vulnerable to sweeps and submissions.

Apply these three tips and you should notice that your opponents will find your guard more difficult to pass as well as providing you more opportunities to set them up for your favorite attacks.

Using Lifeline's TNT Cables to Build a Slimmer Stronger Body

Recently I, decided to add a little resistance tube training to my workout. It's been a while since I have done a resistance tube workout. However, after the workout listed below, I was kindly (or not so kindly) reminded of why I love training with sturdy resistance tube equipment like Lifeline's TNT Cable.

I love the fact that with the TNT Cables, I am not limited to a certain set number of pounds for resistance. Similar to the concept of Bowflex, the more I extend the TNT Cable the more resistance I receive. Thus, it is easy to go from 0-40 pounds of resistance with just one R4 resistance tube used with the TNT Cable However, imagine the sheer beauty of using 2 or 3 tubes (0-80 or 0-120 w/ the R4 tubing). I like adding the extra tubes for my lower body focused workouts.

Another great advantage of using the TNT Cable from Lifeline, is the door attachment. The door attachment allows me to use the TNT Cables, indoors, for pulling exercises, such as various cable rows, or pushing exercises, such as chest presses. Of course I can use the TNT Cables for squats and overhead presses as well. Basically, I can do most of the best fat burning, strength-building exercises with my TNT cables. Plus, I can take the TNT Cable anywhere, anytime. It fits easily in your suitcase, or you can even use the handy travel bag that comes with it.

So, in other words, you have no excuses to not get a good workout in while traveling, or if you just want to add some variety to your training program. By the way, don't let the word "resistance" in resistance tubing fool you. For all of you cardio fiends out there, with the right set of exercises thrown together, you will not only get tax your muscles with progressive resistance, but your heart will be racing as well. Therefore, you get the key components of my successful fitness programs, all in one workout, in a short amount of time.

Don't worry about where to start. I share our workout from this morning below. However, all you need to do right now is grab your own TNT Cable Deluxe Kit. You have to love the fact that you can get a great full body workout without worrying about the dangers of heavy dumb bells or barbells, as well, as the convenience of taking the TNT cable kit with you, no matter how you travel.

Perform each resistance tube exercise for 1 minute, with good form. If you cannot complete the given amount of jump ropes at one time, break the total number up in sets (i.e. 10 or 20) take a brief break and knock out another set fo 10 or 20. continue until you complete the total number listed below.

Rest for 90 seconds between each exercise, and keep your water nearby. Believe me, you will be sweating like a politician in a confessional.
