Waking a couple of hours before work or school gives you more time to prepare or compose yourself. You can either use this precious spare time to exercise or workout, which in my opinion is best done in the early morning hours. You can also start your commute earlier, ahead of everyone, to help you beat the morning traffic. Also, for some mornings is the most productive time of the day to work. There are fewer distractions and you can concentrate and focus more on the task at hand.
After hearing all these benefits, I'm sure you would want to wake up early as well. Below are five tips that may help you achieve this goal.
Get to bed earlier. This may seem out of the question, but still many of us underestimate the importance of sleeping early. Our body needs rest, and the later we sleep chances are we wake up late too. For an average adult, seven to eight hours is the best amount of sleep, although this varies from person to person. It is best to feel your body's need and adjust your sleeping hours as needed.
Get an alarm clock that suits you best. An effective alarm clock is one that will make you stand straight up as soon as you hear it. Try experimenting with different types of alarms, starting from the most annoying and work your way down. As an added tip, place your alarm clock where you can't reach it from your bed. This way you can't shut it off and go back to sleep again.
Get out of your bed quick. Get up and walk out of your bedroom as soon as you feel your eyes open. The longer you stay lying, or near your bed, the more chances that you will go back to sleep again. Just be careful not to hit the door on your way out.
De-stress before going to bed. Not only will this help you sleep, it will also give you a reason to get up every morning. A couple of hours before sleeping, recap your day and point out problems and worries that you may have and make an action plan to solve these the following day. This will help clear and put your mind at ease and at the same time motivate you to start your day earlier.
Plan an effective sleep pattern. After finding out what sleeping habits works for you, stick with it and never deviate. Self-discipline and determination is the key here. If you want it bad enough, you can and you will wake up earlier.
