Basic Skin Care

Skin care, you've heard a million different statements, by everyone under the sun. People seem to forget the basic principals of proper skin care for the face, and believe it or not, it all starts with your hands. The amount of bacteria that we come into contact with on a daily basis is actually frightening.

I stopped in a gas station one day, and while I was talking to the clerk, I noticed she had a large bandage on her cheek. I asked her what happened and she told me she had gotten a staph infection. She always handled large amounts of money during the day that had been handled by many other people. Without thinking, she would rub her eyes, or cradle her face in her hands in between customers.

Before she knew it, her cheek started to itch, so she scratched it. A few days later she had a sore that would not heal. She had actually transferred a staph infection from the money to her face. After numerous doctor visits and quite a bit of pain, she finally got it under control. The story unfortunately does not end there, she was left with a very visible scar. This is a very attractive woman who now has a permanent flaw. The sad part is it should have never happened. All she had to do to prevent this, was to make sure she washed her hands before she touched any part of her body. Some of life's lessons come harder than others.

Everywhere from door knobs to shopping cart handles, large amounts of fecal matter, e-coli, and of course the flue virus have been found. I don't want you to be afraid to go out, just follow some simple common sense rules.

1. Always remember to wash your hands before you touch yourself or family members.

2. Always remember to wash your hands before you touch yourself or family members.

3. Always remember to wash your hands before you touch yourself or family members.

Teach your children to do the same. We know that improper hand washing is a contributing factor to children spreading the flu virus as fast as they do. Airborne bacteria, dust particles, and chemicals also contribute to complexion problems. If you add too much time out in the sun to the equation, pre-mature aging of the skin becomes rampant. The answer is to protect your face from the suns harmful rays as well as washing your face several times a day. Use a gentle, naturally based cleanser so you don't add dry skin to your list of problems and you should be alright. Good luck and stay clean.
