11 Tips For New Parents

If you are a new parent, you will be excited already to have a little angel in your home. You will be already tired with your pregnancy and labor and now you need to care for the newborn as well as your house. Both the parents must be engaged in nurturing the baby, as it is the responsibility of both the parents to do so. These tips will help you take care of your baby as new parents.

1. You can bring your parents home to help you take care of the baby, if this option is feasible, since you are inexperienced, your mom can help you in many things related to baby care.

2. Whenever you lift your newborn, life the baby with the hands supporting the back and the neck. The baby will be fragile and if you don't take care, his or her bones will break leading to serious consequences.

3. Always keep your baby wrapped, as he or she will loses heat faster. Make the baby wear baby clothes to keep him or her warm.

4. Breast feeding is highly essential for providing nutrition to the newborn. For at least 6 months, you have to breastfeed your baby. After feeding, you have to let the baby burp. The dad can take care of burping the baby, as this will enhance their bonding.

5. Your baby always expects security and you have to keep touching your baby whenever he or she is awake. The baby will feel secure in your hands and you can start talking to your baby to strengthen the bonding.

6. Love your baby irrespective of what he or she does. Enjoy doing whatever you do for the baby. When you love the baby, you can communicate your love with warm touches and hugs.

7. Your baby will urinate frequently and you have to use good quality diapers for the baby. Never keep the baby wet with urine, as it will lead to rashes. When your baby develops rashes, try applying baby ointments and change the diaper.

8. Wash the baby clothes and diapers separately and you can also use antiseptic liquids for rinsing the baby's clothes. You have to use plenty of water for washing baby clothes, as you don't want the harsh soaps to harm your baby.

9. Don't bathe the baby until the navel is healed. Then you can use tubs for bathing your baby. The dad can also be engaged in bathing the baby and when your baby starts enjoying water, you will have more fun.

10. Your babies will sleep for hours together and you have to ensure that your baby always sleeps on his or her back.

11. It is essential that the new parents also spend some time together talking about themselves. This will always keep you energetic to share the household activities and take up this responsibility of caring for the newborn cheerfully.

Tip #3: Do not smoke. If you smoke now, you should quit immediately. Cigarette smoking, while horrible for your health is also terrible for your skin! The smoke causes lines around your mouth and your eyes. It clogs your pores and tightens your blood vessels which will constrict the blood flow to your face (and the rest of your body). Do your best to stay away from second hand smoke as well. This too can have adverse affects on your health and skin.

At some point everybody will get a few wrinkles. Wrinkles can be caused by good things (haven't you heard of "smile" or "laughter" lines) as well, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to minimize their appearance.

Dogs can neither talk nor truly understand the spoken word, they cannot be taught right from wrong (as we can) by learning from other people's experience. Furthermore, dogs cannot ask the all important questions, 'what?', 'when?', 'why? and 'how?'.There is no doubt that teaching and training dogs would be a doddie!

Although dogs are not able to talk, they do communicate by a truly sophisticated method- 'body language'. As a result, dogs have become very astute observers. They can detect minute changes in the attitude of humans, and this they often appear to be "reading" their owner's mind and be able to anticipate correctly what is about to happen. From a behavioral point of view, the significance of this is that if we are able to interpret THEIR body language and use our adaptation of their body language, together with words, when we teach them how we would like them to behave. The value of using gestures and words is often underestimated and is certainly far more effective than shouting! Another important implication of this fact is that we can, often unintentionally, encourage or "reinforce" a dog's behavior by an inadvertent word or gesture that the dog interprets as praise. A dog's emotions and intentions can be read by observing its stance, how it holds its ears and tail and its facial expression. It pays to observe your dog closely as a puppy and throughout its life so that you can interpret what it is likely to be "saying" to you. Some of the most common signs are explained below:

1. Ears

Pricked/erect pointing forward: Dog alert and listening

Held back to head: Submission, pleasure or ready to attack

Flat back or low on head: Fear

2. Eyes

Narrowed and half closed: Pleasure or submission

3. Mouth

But you do not care about it. It is because you wanted to become a little chubby and showy. You wished to be so-your mind allowed it.

This is the time when you can consider about a change in your way of food consumption. Your mind is willing to change. But, you are unwilling to change yourself; you are not co-operating with your mind.

Level 1 Reiki - Tips To Keep Your Confidence High

Introduction

During a Reiki Level 1 course, most students find it easy to connect to Reiki energy. They also find it easy to do the meditation exercises that are taught to strengthen it.

Not so afterwards.

In the days following a course it quite often happens that students not only begin to feel a bit lost, they also struggle to reconnect to everything that previously came so easily to them.

From there it is not unusual for students to gradually decrease the amount of Reiki they practice until eventually they are overrun by everyday concerns and stop altogether.

How then can you make sure your Reiki doesn't slip into the 'I'm-too-busy-to-do-it' box? How can you ensure that your Reiki ability improves rather than fades?

This article looks at some simple things you should both know and do to keep your confidence sky high while you continue to develop your Reiki.

Be Consistent With Your Practice

The first thing to ensure after you have finished your course is that you are consistent with your practice. You may be busy, you may not always wish to do it; but it is essential. Make a commitment to do some Reiki every day for 21 days and you will find that everything you have learnt is not only consolidated, but also improved.

Two things to remember:

  1. A little bit of practice every day of the week is a lot better than a lot of practice on just one day of the week. Consistency is the key to good results. Do a bit of practice each day and you will be surprised by what you achieve.
  2. You won't need to practice every day forever. Once you have consolidated your Reiki you will probably get good results even if you miss a day or two of practice. Just don't miss too many days early on, because if you do you will not only get into a bad habit that could be difficult to shake, you may also find yourself getting less predictable results.(Note: It is important to remember that you can never lose your ability to do Reiki after you have been attuned - not even if you stop practicing. All that happens is that your sensitivity and ability to channel decrease - something that is reversible with practice.)

Ideally, your teacher will you give you a 21-programme to follow as well as an instruction manual. An e-programme is probably best, as it can be delivered to your inbox every day, thus nudging you towards consistent practice.

Have Faith - Reiki Always Works!

A problem for beginners is often that their Reiki ability doesn't seem consistent. One day energy is flying everywhere, the next they can barely feel a thing. Does this mean their Reiki ability has suddenly dropped off? Or could there be other explanations?

What you need to remember is that there can be many reasons for energy fluctuations. For instance:

  1. Your body has reached a saturation point and doesn't need any more energy at present.
  2. Your energy is working on an emotional, rather than physical level.
  3. You can't feel as much energy flowing out of your hands because the energy channels in them have expanded. To understand this, think of these energy circuits to be like a pipeline: at first you are using a small one that struggles to cope with even modest amounts of energy flowing through it; later, your 'pipeline' widens so you can fit more energy in - energy that may well seem less voluminous because the pressure is not so great.

The best idea is simply to study your emotional / health state over a period of time (i.e. at least a week). If it is improving then things are going well - even if you can't always feel the Reiki doing a lot of good.

Finally, remember that Reiki always works - even if you can't see how. This might sound like unsupported faith, but it's true. Just ask all experienced practitioners. The thing to remember is simply that there are not always obvious short term results. Over time, however, you will see the benefits. You might just need to be patient.

Practice on Friends and Family

A great way to grow in confidence is by practicing on other people. Since it is generally easier to do Reiki on others than yourself (you feel more, they feel more!), it is a great way to boost your confidence and get valuable feedback.

It's also a great way to overcome the natural tendency to explain away all Reiki sensations as pure imagination. After all, if someone tells you they feel energetic pulsations or heat, it's hard not to believe them. If you experience them yourself, it is easy to think you are just imagining it.

Speak to Your Teacher

It's amazing how few students contact their teacher after a course - even if they have lots of questions. This is especially odd given how open most teachers are to supporting their students.

So call or write to your teacher if you have a question. Don't stay troubled and do nothing about it. If you do, you only have yourself to blame.

Conclusion

When doing Reiki, results will always vary. It is therefore important not to become overly attached to short term results. Just do your best and leave everything else to the 'gods'. This approach gives you the best chance of being a clear Reiki 'channel' - and the clearer the channel, the better the results!

Help! Body Language Emergency

Did you know that non-verbal communication accounts for 80% of how people perceive you? While the remaining 20% are the words you use, the overwhelming importance of non-verbal communication (including vocal tone and body language) is clear.

Yes my friends, that sigh or dismissive eye-roll in a staff meeting could be costing you big time in the promotability department.

Here are a few 5 quick tips to improve your body language and as a result, improve your personal and professional relationships.

1. Practice the Zen of Movement
In "Go Wild-Survival Skills for Business and Life", I refer to this as the "Power of the Pause". Every time you have movement, you create distraction for the listener. You've all seen women in horror movies. Their running through the woods! What happens to them? They fall, they trip, okay sometimes they lose their clothes and on the Discovery channel they certainly get eaten! A running animal is a vulnerable animal. Think of that colleague running around the office like a road-runner. Do they look calm and confident in a crisis? Conserve your energy and recognize that people who speak slower and wait two to three seconds before responding are considered much more credible. Also before jumping into action, experience stillness, centering and the incredible "Power of the Pause"

2. Lean Forward
Did you know that people who lean forward two to 3 inches are considered much more credible? That's why if someone interviews with me and leans back in the chair, I simply won't hire them. A forward lean show attention and actually improves listening. Not closer than that or you may appear aggressive.

3. Smile
This is another key non-verbal expression I also look for when interviewing since I follow the best practice of "Hiring for Attitude and Training for Skill". Here's my rule: if during a 30 minute interview you don't smile 15 times I won't hire you. This may sounds harsh but wait a minute, if you can't fake it when you want the job????? what's going to happen when things go terribly wrong?

4. Heads UP!
A good posture makes you taller in many ways. Imagine there is a puppeteer pulling your head up straight. Or imagine you're a Top! Also avoid leaning on one leg or another. Your feet should be firmly planted so you do not give the appearance of being "off balance"

5. Avoid the Noise.
Noise is those distracting non-verbals that compete with and can destroy your message (hair twirling, checking your cell phone or blackberry as a cool multi-taskerPsst...You're not! Clicking of pens, gum chewing, pushing up glasses...the list is endless.) Again, think the Zen of movement and avoid distracting the listener's eyes with unnecessary motion.

Eating Tips For Burning Fat and Successfully Losing Weight Healthily

For anyone attempting to lose weight, burning fat is the most important thing you can do. Without burning fat all your going to lose is muscle as well, and the more muscle you lose the more fat you'll actually put on. Muscle mass naturally has a higher metabolic rate during your body's resting state. If your body has a higher fat percentage the slower your metabolism will be.

Don't skip breakfast. never skip your breakfast. When you wake up in the morning, your body has just completed an 8 hour fast. After enduring such a time span with no nutrients, your body goes into a catabolic (muscle wasting) state and will begin to break down protein. This is a crucial time to get some much needed nutrition as soon as possible.

A healthy breakfast is a fundamental part of any successful fat-burning diet. You should be eating something within an hour of rising.

Eat every few hours during the day. This means that you will be consuming a meal 5 to 6 times a day. Not only does this type of eating regime stimulate muscle maintenance and fat loss, it is also an crucial technique for controlling food cravings.

You see, when people miss a meal, or haven't eaten in a while, their blood sugar drops too much, and their will power becomes weak. In other words, people who go a long time without enjoying a meal are much more likely to cheat on their diet. So in saying this, having small meals every two to three hours will help remove those cravings that may be the main reason that you have failed all attempts to lose weight in the past.

Even if you are one of the few who can fight off the cravings for food caused by missing meals, you must still be careful. If you go without eating on a regular basis, your body will actually activate enzymes that store fat. This will make losing weight much more difficult. Many dieters think that missing meals will help them lose weight, but missing meals has the reverse effect of this misconception.

It's a good idea to reduce your carbohydrate intake. Your body's fuel will be attained from a mixture of fat, protein and carbs. When you cut down on your carbohydrate intake, your body's stores of carbs get quickly depleted. This forces your body to utilize a higher amount of free fatty acids (fat) for fuel. Cutting down on your carbs will also have a hormonal fat-burning effect.

When you decrease the amount of carbs that you eat, insulin (a storage hormone) decreases and glucagon (a fuel mobilizing hormone) is raised. This causes a larger number free fatty acids to be released from fat cells and burned, assuming that you're working out properly.

Killer Workouts? Tips To Surviving The Summer Heat

It that time of year again; School is getting out, Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, and summer sports are starting in full swing. Age-group track meets in 100 degree heat for hours, football summer workouts on fields so hot the rubber on the cleats is starting to melt and soccer games in humidity that can actually kill you! Whether you live in Texas or Rhode Island; the summer heat kills child athletes every year!

How can you let your child fully participate in summer sports and still keep them safe? Here are some simple tips to follow to keep your athlete's safe:

1. Listen to your body! Teach your child that heat cramps lead to heat exhaustion, which leads to heat stroke. Stop when you feel cramping, not when you feel like passing out! This is not the time of year to "suck it up" and be the tough guy. Stubborn tough guys can actually die from heat stroke! Tell them if they feel "weak and whoozy" it's past the time to stop! Seek attention immediately by telling their parents or coach.

2. Reduce the intensity of your workout when it's hot. Remember that the higher the temperature and humidity, the harder your body has to work for the same speed. Tell your child to use perceived exertion as an index. Every day is different and they need to be in tune with their exertion level. I tell my track athletes that if they can't talk when they are running more than 15 minutes then they are running too fast for the temperature!

3. Take time to get used to the conditions. It takes a full two weeks of heat and humidity to "get used to it." The body has been shown to take 8 to 10 increments of 30 to 45 minutes in the heat to acclimatize. Give yourself some time in the early season to become heat-tolerant.

4. Drink plenty of fluids. Most children are already dehydrated when they start practice or competition. Encourage them to drink at least a pint of water two hours before practice and then at least 8 ounces, 15 minutes before any competition.

5. Keep drinking periodically during practice or any long competitions. If the duration of exercise is more than an hour, use an electrolyte-replacing sports drink. Remind your child to drink at least every 20 minutes even if the don't feel thirsty. By the time they are thirsty, most are already dehydrated.

6. A good way to gauge fluid loss is weight loss. Weigh in before and after competition. Replace the loss after competition to maintain hydration.

7. Wear loose, sweat wicking, light colored clothing. There are lots of synthetic materials on the market that help wick sweat away from your body and keep you cool. This is not the time of year for cotton t-shits and shorts. Spend the money on proper clothing to keep your child cool.

8. Wear sunscreen and replenish regularly. Sweating or swimming in a pool for more than 30 minutes will wash off even the most "waterproof sunscreen." Keep reapplying. Remember that blistering sunburns in childhood have been linked to skin cancer in adults!

Fibromyalgia Chronic Fatigue - Are They The Same?

Don't be confused when you hear the term fibromyalgia chronic fatigue syndrome, as this does not describe an actual medical condition. What we have are two different conditions: fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

These two medical conditions have baffled the medical community for quite a while now. It took them years to establish and release official guidelines for the two syndrome's diagnosis.

Both FMS and CFS are non-fatal conditions. And because the conditions do not damage any body tissue, no permanent physical effects have been observed from people who had the syndromes. Nevertheless, the damaging effects might not be present in the body itself, but rather the conditions can greatly affect relationships in families, with friends and employers.

Most evident and most immediately affected by these syndromes are job performance and family relations. This is why it is very important that patients have a solid support group to help them cope with the hardships they will have to face as they treat their conditions.

Fibromyalgia syndrome or FMS is usually categorized by the pain patients feel in their muscles, particularly in the areas like the back of your head, neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees. For example, patients that have possible CFS will feel exhausted quickly even if he/she is doing very simple, normal activities. Some doctors or experts insists that before the patient is officially diagnosed as having CFS, the condition of fatigue and tiredness be present for a period of six consecutive months. Also, the fatigue felt by patients should not be associated with other medical conditions or disease like cancer.

However, although these are two separate conditions there appears to be quite a significant overlap between them and it is thought they may make up part of a wider spectrum of similar conditions. Your diagnosis of either fibromyalgia or CFS may depend on which symptom presents itself first.

They are both similar conditions to arthritis where the symptoms can come and go and also vary in severity.

During a week of fun in NYC and Rhode Island visiting friends and attending my alma mater, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Iyanla Vanzant and Dr. Joseph Mercola. 3. Replace processed crackers with gluten free flax crackers, the brand I like is "Mary's Gone Crackers." To curb your cravings for crunchy treats, eat more fruits and vegetables like carrots, celery (boring, I know, but they are crunchy), and crisp apples - organic, of course.

4. Stop eating all chips at least for a week or two. Chips are nothing but fried corn or potatoes, chemicals, additives and salt. Replace them with other salty, crunchy alternatives like nori and dulse. Olives and raw nuts are a really wonderful substitute, too.

5. Exercise! Seriously you gotta use it or you'll lose it. You may be thinking that you don't have time to exercise, but that is just an excuse. I recommend getting your calendar, Smartphone or day planner out right now and schedule in exactly when you can exercise this week. Ask a friend to help you keep your promise to yourself.
