It's difficult to start out with a new bodybuilding workout program. How many people do you see in the gym who look the exactly the same today as they did a year ago? The answer is almost everyone.
To avoid this fate, you want to make sure that you are doing things based on a solid foundation so that you can see results quickly and are also able to build on it and see regular progress. One of the key things that make up this foundation is the type of routine you choose.
There are two main types of bodybuilding routines: full body and split. In a full body routine you typically work all of the major muscle groups in one session, 2 or 3 times a week.
In a split routine you work different muscle groups on different days. Typically each muscle group will get worked only once a week.
Which one do you choose? Unfortunately there's no correct answer here. Full body routines are typically geared towards beginners and spit routines for more advanced fitness levels, but that is not always the case.
Everyone is different, so you need to try both to figure out what works best for you. The key here is that you do one or the other.
The worst thing you can do is have no routine at all! So many people go into the gym and just workout randomly. Every day in the gym they just go whatever they feel like with no set routine. The problem with this is there's no way to properly gauge your progress or see what is actually working for you.
Pick either a full body or split routine and stick with it. If it isn't working out for you, congratulations! You now know what doesn't work and can move on to a routine that does. You'll get results faster than most and can enjoy your bodybuilding workouts knowing that you're on the right track to reach your goals.
