What causes those ugly brown spots?
If you have brown spots -- or liver spots -- it is most likely because of the time you've spent in the sun. These ugly brown spots are actually the result of your skin trying to defend itself against over-exposure to the sun. If you spend a long time in the sun -- with your skin unprotected -- pigments in your skin "pool" to various spots to protect your skin which leaves an uneven brown patch.
Other names for liver spots
Liver spots are also called age spots Lentigos and Senile Lentigines. Regardless of what they are called, they are dark pigment clusters that most often happen after the age of 40. They tend to occur on the backs of hands, on your forearms, face, forehead and shoulders -- those areas that have been most exposed to the sun's radiation. Fair skinned people are most likely to develop them.
Using apple cider vinegar on liver spots
Some women have found good success in removing liver spots by combining apple cider vinegar with onion juice and applying it directly to the skin. First, finely chop or blend an onion and then use a strainer or cheesecloth to squeeze out the extracted juice. Then, take one part of apple cider vinegar and one part of the onion juice and mix them together. Apply this mixture directly to the liver spots by dabbing with a cotton pad.
If you repeat this once a day for about six weeks, you should begin to see a gradual improvement. If, after six weeks, they have not completely disappeared; keep repeating the process until they do.
Aloe Vera
While aloe vera juice has long been known as a great healing agent for skin problems, especially for burns, many women have also found it t useful in reducing the visual appearance of age spots. Just rub the juice or gel directly onto the liver spots twice a day. You should begin to see an improvement within a month.
Lemon juice
Lemon juice is very acidic and, as such, can help fade the appearance of liver spots. Just dab fresh lemon juice directly onto the liver spots twice daily and you should see a big improvement in about two months.
Castor oil
This oil has also been shown to help with liver spots. Just rub it directly on to the affected area first thing in the morning and then in the evening. This should help fade the spots within a month.
