The different styles of haircuts worn by the males are skin cut. A hair stylist / barber said that youths prefer to this style as NBA due to the fact that majority of American Basketball players wear it. Another style is the low cut which leaves little hair on the head, unlike skin cut whereby no hair is seen on the head. According to some ladies, the low haircut is easy to maintain and it costs less. Despite men's love for low haircut, the shift in hair fashion has swept a lot of them off their feet, and they cannot but dress their hair like the female counterparts. No wonder makes in the entertainment industry, footballers, fashion models etc. now weave, braid and style their hair.

The most prevalent of all these hairstyles is the short dread locks which could be maintained with the aid of hair treatments in the salon. Females are also not left out in this dread locks hairstyle. It is worn by males and females alike, irrespective of their occupation or status.
Looking at haircut from a different perspective would also reveal that this shift in haircut is embedded in some cultures whereby a woman is compelled to completely shave her hair, (skin cut), at the death of her husband, must especially in Africa. This may not be termed as "Trendy" or fashionable.
