More Than Just a Beauty Sleep

It's very easy to lose sleep these days because of so many distractions. Teenagers these days stay up too late watching TV or surfing the Internet to chat with friends or watch videos on YouTube. A cup of coffee from Starbucks can also keep them awake all throughout the night.

It's very important to get enough hours of sleep. Kids, for example, need 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Most adults think they can get away with 5 hours or less of sleep, which is unhealthy. For adults, an average of at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep is needed to recharge.

The right amount of sleep keeps your body healthy.

Your body is built like a machine- If you don't take care of it, it will break down. Aside from proper sleep, diet and exercise are also other ways to keep your body in shape. Sleeping well keeps your body strong enough to fight sickness; those who do not have enough sleep get sick easily.

It is also important to sleep at the right time. Although power naps in the middle of the day help recharge the body, it's still best to get complete hours of sleep at night. The human body has its own clock; the processes that go on inside your body are affected by sunlight. If you sleep throughout the day and stay up at night, you can confuse your body's schedule. You can get sick easily this way if you're not careful.

Sleeping keeps the blemishes away.

The fairytale lives! Sleeping keeps your skin looking smooth and pretty. Getting enough sleep works better than all the facial creams in the world combined. To get smooth, baby-like skin, you need to make sure that your skin cells regenerate. Unhealthy sleeping habits can cause pimples and ugly scars. Someone who doesn't get enough sleep usually develop zits or acne.

You need enough sleep especially if you're a teenager. Lack of sleep is not healthy for your raging hormones. The right amount of sleep keeps the body chemicals in control. Most skin blemishes are caused by the body's inability to adjust to changes. Help your body out by sleeping well.

Sleep helps to keep you sane.

Studies show that people who get less than six hours of sleep function strangely. To be more specific, sleepless people may act drunk. Lack of sleep has the same effect on the brain as alcohol: it can give people dizzy spells, and it can make them emotionally unstable. Bad sleeping habits also make people more prone to stress. If you don't sleep enough, you might end up acting like a crazy person without noticing it!

Sleep helps you learn more.

A large amount of information processing happens in our sleep. This is why cramming at the last minute is not a good idea. Losing sleep right before the exam doesn't help you get the kind of performance you like during exams. Sleeplessness only makes you lose concentration and also weakens your memory. To ace that test, you need to study regularly and get enough hours of sleep.
